Sustainability

At Grumble Studios, we are committed to ensuring our business operations and decisions have a positive impact on the environment. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint. We have practices in place to help achieve this and a greener future.

Firstly, we have teamed up with Ecologi. This means for every online order, one tree gets planted. It is a simple yet impactful climate solution for our planet.

Reducing waste is a responsibility we strive towards. We prevent, reuse, recycle and recover waste where possible. The purpose of keeping waste to a minimum is to reduce pollution levels, which harm the environment. Any waste that goes to landfill will decompose and generate methane in the process that’s released into the atmosphere. It traps heat in the atmosphere and significantly contributes to global warming.

Water waste is necessary to our tie dying process however we preserve it as much as possible. By working in batches of colour it allows us to use water responsibly. The garments can all be rinsed together at the same time, meaning less water is used, making it a more sustainable process — while still ensuring a beautiful final product.

Items such as our pom pom garlands, crochet scrunchies and knitted headbands are made entirely from thrifted yarn. By choosing second-hand yarn, we’re opting out of the fast fashion cycle. It supports the idea of a circular economy, giving new life to yarn that’s already been produced instead of contributing to the demand for new.

Upcycling is our newest adventure and a way to make our planet a little greener by working towards less waste and more creativity. We love bringing new life to old pieces and turning waste into ‘wow’! We are inspired by the endless possibilities, from clothing to corks, tin cans and old jewellery. We are here to show you that sustainability can be stylish!

Environmental impact is an important part of our business ethos. We are continuously developing the way we provide our products without damaging the environment. So what are we doing to achieve this?

We are dedicated to working in a way that is plastic free. Our ambition is to use less packaging and better packaging.

Currently 80% of our jewellery’s packaging is made out of recycled Kraft card. Kraft card is a natural, biodegradable and compostable material. We cut it ourselves to the correct size and shape, making sure there’s minimal waste. Any left over strips of card we keep to make handmade price tags — we simply cut them into rectangles, hole punch them, write the price on then add string.

When delivering our products via post we use products that are as eco-friendly as possible.

  • We have sourced cardboard boxes that are made from sustainable materials, fully recyclable and biodegradable.
  • Our mailing bags are made from 100% recycled polythene that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. They are also 100% recyclable.
  • The tissue paper we use is 100% degradable and compostable.
  • Stickers we seal with are biodegradable.
  • To ensure that any fragile products are cushioned well during transit, we stuff our boxes with reused packaging we receive and recover from our suppliers (or family that kindly save us some). This could be anything from tissue paper, shredded paper and bubble wrap.
  • We do not print invoices for orders — this avoids unnecessary printing that wastes paper and ink. The information can easily be accessed online.

These are just a few examples of our green practises. We will continue to be committed to responsibly reducing the impact we as a business have on the environment. We are constantly listening to our customers, researching new ways to work and exploring new ideas in order to be better at taking care of the environment.

Are you passionate about creating a cleaner, sustainable future for all? Why not start engaging in eco-friendly practices too. Small changes can be made in your lifestyle that are not too significant to handle.

Remember, there is no Planet B.
