About Us
How It All Started
My world has always revolved around creativity.
Growing up, my favourite thing to do when I was bored was to grab a notebook and some pencils, and just draw with no end goal in sight. I’d create animals, flowers, sunsets—and I didn’t feel any pressure to make them worthy of hanging on the fridge. I just did it for the sheer joy of creating!
When I became an adult my imagination didn’t stop. I continued to make art and even had the courage to try out new mediums and techniques. This is when I first tried tie dye!
I launched Grumble Studios after finishing university in 2020, at the height of the Covid crisis.
At home during lockdown I thought what can I do with myself to cure the boredom. Tie dye was coming back in fashion—I thought to myself I still have clothes I dyed from a couple years ago but socks would be cool! And that’s how it started. I put the spare socks I made online and they sold within the hour. I bought more, they sold out again.
Fast forward 3 years and I have a diverse product range from tie dye to jewellery, accessories, home fragrance, greeting cards etc.
Choosing a Name
It didn’t take long for me to choose the name for my business. I am an animal lover, especially dogs. I love them that much I own four of them! They are all pugs. Their names are Buddy, Bea, Winnie and Reggie.
Did you know that a group of pugs is called a Grumble? In my 3 years of trading I’ve only met one person who knew what it was.
Because I do all the making in my studio that’s how it was decided. Grumble Studios.
Growing Greener
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised that being green and making sustainable choices has become less of a trend and more of a priority. In my younger years, I loved the thrill of new clothes, new gadgets and convenience—but over time, I’ve become more aware of the impact those choices have on our planet. Now, sustainability is something I weave into my everyday life.
When I first started my business, it was all about experimenting and finding my niche. I was focused on what was popular and exciting. But as I've grown, so has my vision for what I want to offer.
Over time, I've become more conscious of the impact my business has on the planet. Instead of chasing trends, I've shifted my focus on curating items that are sustainable, eco-friendly and mindfully made.
It has been a gradual shift but I’ve found joy in involving Grumble on this journey and making thoughtful choices on the products I make and sell. When possible, I reuse and repurpose what I already have, choose second-hand, or support brands that are eco-conscious. I’ve come to appreciate the beauty in upcycling, the creativity of DIY projects, and the satisfaction of giving new life to things that might have been tossed aside.
I am trying to do my part with Grumble Studios, the more I learn, the more I understand that small changes can make a big difference.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me! We are here to show you that sustainability can be stylish!
